Attendee Information Via Google Maps!

When planning a recent trip to Austin and San Antonio, Texas, I asked a friend who lives in the area to send me some places he thought I should visit. Instead of a list, he sent me a link to a Google map he created with his sites located on it. All I had to do was to click on the icons and I could see his comments about each site.

Way cool!, I thought.

I’ve taken this idea and created a Google Attendee Location Map with the locations of registered attendees for the June 4, 2008 Networking Dinner Reception (see a small version of the map imbedded on the left). You can click on icons on the map to get information about each attendee, including the attendee name, job title, interests, and more (see below).

All registered attendees can collaborate with me on building this map to include more information about themselves, their businesses, and their networking goals. This is a great tool for attendees to improve their their networking effecttiveness before, during, and after the meeting. It is also a great way for attendees to promote themselves and their businesses to other attendees and via the Internet (anyone can view this map).

Customize Your Map Information
Registered attendees are invited to customize their pop-up information box on the map as follows:

  • Instead of the icon provided, upload your own icon (64×64 pixels). By default, icons are color-coded representing different kinds of organizations.
  • Add more information about yourself and your company. The standard information includes only your name and job title. If you are a speaker or sponsor, that is included as well as a link to your website.
  • Add a photo of yourself! This will definitely help other attendees find you at the meeting!
  • Do something interesting and tell me so that I can share the idea with other attendees!

Here’s another idea: After the meeting, embed the Vendor Elevator Pitch Video we create for you during the dinner in your information box on the map!
